They are playing to their base. They have pandered to the public servants for so long that they know they must continue. I find it funny that the office fat A$$ keyboard surfers make the lion's share of the money but to the public it's always sold as teachers, police officers, firemen and medical personnel.

Yet the ones who really reap the benefits are downplayed. Not that teacher salaries are actually inline with the private sector but the public has been told for so long that teachers make nothing they swallow the bait.
