What's in a Name?

I must agree with LT that each district would be unique regarding whether or not a new party would be prudent or using Ron Paul tactics would be the best course.

JB suggests a new party, while using R infrastructure where prudent.  This would allow the new party to begin getting traction where it is able, and R's elected on our platform to slowly migrate as warranted to the new party in their respective districts.

This dovetails nicely with LT, above as well as with Quiet Man's suggestions (see comments).

For the sake of discussion, let's assume a new Party is part of a good strategic move (in addition to using existing R infrastructure where applicable).

Extending our political contemplations - what would you suggest as a name for a third party?

Remember your target audience.  Remember the rules of marketing.  Remember to convey your intent in as few syllables as possible.

Most of all - consider how your enemies would spin it.

"The Jefferson Party" would, for instance, be murdered in the crib because of the slavery paint brush.

"1791 Party" would work for many of us - but we know the relevance of 1791 in a glance, and the overwhelming majority of people in the voter pool would have no clue.

"Rightful Liberty Party" works for me - everyone likes the notion of Liberty, the "Rightful" part can be explained with the Jefferson quote...

There is no avoiding the reality that political enemies will immediately try to link any new such party with slavery, given the language that exists in the USC, and despite the intent of that language.  Any party arguing for a 'return to founding principles' will immediately be hit with Slavery and Women's Rights as issues.  Personally, I'd answer such claims as I do on our blogs: Those considerations are disingenuous, at best.  Every State in America has laws against slavery and discrimination.

But the smears will work, to a degree, for the malevolent and the un-thinking Souls.  But, they aren't really the target audience, anyway.

Name suggestions?

  3. Cheerleaders party. Just think about it for a minute. How many guys in the voting booth would hit that lever just because they couldn't help themselves. We would win in a landslide

  4. I thought of the "American Individuals Movement" or AIM for short.
    Take AIM against corruption.
    AIM for the future.
With AIM you will always be on target.

Russell Means and the Oglala Lakota "takeover" of Wounded Knee, S.D.; on the Pine Ridge rez.... in an attempt to get a homeland for the indigenous people of... hey... wait a minute... freedom from oppressive government, recognized as a sovereign land... yeah, there's a connection... AIM is good. Grandpa likes it... stormfriend sends

  6. Free Citizen here. When I was reading the comments, right next to it was an ad for Rightful Liberty Report. The Rightful Liberty Party sounds good to me.

  7. Call it the Free Party and we would have a huge part of the population immediately behind us that is until they realize Free isn't really free you have to work for it. But joking aside, the Rightful Liberty Party does sound good but it would have to be attached to something the way the tea party was.

    1. "Attached", i.e. "Causes" we would back; i.o.w. planks in our platform which people would favor, even "adhere" to, because of their existing beliefs, such as
      - Not one more inch position on ALL of our civil liberties (not just 2A)
      - Restore the power to mint money to the Congress directly (end the FED)
      - Reduce the federal budget to $10B by the year 2022
      - clearly defining when the right to life begins
      - etc.

  8. "1791 party" has a great deal of potential.

And no, it doesn't matter what we call ourselves, the whole array of communists, racists, self-appointed oligarchs, butch feminists, militant sodomites, and every other brand of evil will come out against us with the utmost force and hatred. There's no avoiding it, so we should prepare to plunge in, headlong...

  9. By attach I mean a thought, slogan, platform or social issue that we would use in conjunction with the party name to attract people at the grassroots level. It should make the people on our side want to get more active and those haven't been on our side make them want to be part of this growing social movement. Make it cool to be a part of what we are trying to accomplish. Much like the tea party did when they first started out. Understanding that we would be attacked we would be able to say things like so you think wanting to get rid of corrupt politicians who make millions of dollars helping the Russians control all the uranium in the world so they can make bombs and we cant is a bad thing? What it means is that we wont be protect your little Johnny and all the little Johnnies in the United States so you don't care about the children's safety.

  10. What if we considered the "Constitution Party" or some variation ... Constitutional Party, Constitutionalist Party .... and a symbol to consider might be a slight variation of the logo from the Bicentennial of the Constitution program. Just a thought.

  11. There is already a "Constitution Party," which might be worth looking at, as they may already have a lot of the groundwork laid. They look very much like a socially conservative version of the Libertarian party... however you want to view that. I would suggest digging deeper than the front page of their website. I know that very well-known minister ran on the Constitution Party Ticket a few years back and that makes me concerned that the party might just be interested in using the force of government to advance their own personal social agenda.

    1. Where are you on Rightful Liberty Party (RLP)?

For me the Jefferson quote becomes the perfect, eloquent tagline. It also offers the advantages of being closely-tied to TJ, without being directly locked at the hip to everything on his resume.

      Delete
    2. I am ok with it but it doesn’t “excite” me. I cannot necessarily put my finger on it but there is just something about the term “Rightful” in the context of a party name that seems kind of mundane or incomplete for such an important adjective – but that’s just me.

I do like the idea of “Rightful Liberty” being the party’s goal/ purpose and mission statement and it can be the perfect tagline for whatever party name we eventually decide upon.

Perhaps “Rightful Liberty Party” will grow on me over time but for now, I am neutral about it.

Whatever name we choose, it has to capture our intended audience’s attention, interest to learn more, and legitimacy as serious party. There have been hundreds if not thousands of parties in the past that have come and gone…what will make ours different?

  13. Hate to be a downer but I feel like we are not even to that stage yet... Is there even a county out there let alone a state that would vote in a new party...Maybe in the redoubt but even then they are pretty stuck in their ways of voting Republican... We can't hardly get anyone to move into a common area to sway the vote to more conservative candidates how are we going to get a new party platform to take off...I think even if we get a party going that sounds good and has a great freedom message all we would be doing is wasting money that could be spent in better ways...JMHO

    1. Here in the Redoubt there are a few counties/states that would make great test cases, with plenty of time to get the ball rolling for 2016...

    2. You think we have the numbers to accomplish what we would need too so we don't fail right out of the gate? For it to be a success its also going to take money so if the numbers are iffy I wouldn't even attempt it...Take your county do you think you could sway Republicans away from voting Republican let alone the Constitutionalist...Is your sheriff up for election in 16?

    3. Sheriff here is solid, not sure if he intends to run again in '16 yet. Hope he does.

We can talk details in private - but the answer is 'yes' regarding strategic and tactical opportunities locally for a strong shift to the political right.

Money, of course, is an issue and always will be. But a strong platform can do 2 things: 1) Force candidates to accept it (or at least parts of it) and 2) Raise financial support.

    4. Well then it will be another thing that needs to be hashed out around a campfire then;) Looking forward to it...

    5. That is my point about running on Republican ticket as well as starting a new party - it's more important to get someone in that can operate as "one of us" than it is to get elected under a new party name. Over time though, I still think it important to abandon the Republican Party - it seems destined to irrelevance.

I believe that the best non-violent chance we have of effecting change towards Rightful Liberty is thru state nullification of federal rules, regulations, laws, and executive orders. We have two options towards achieving nullification; 1. Get our own people in and/or, 2. Work to influence more conservative/ libertarian candidates that have already been elected. There are several states that have passed and continue to pass some level of nullification legislation.

Also, let's not rule out running for local government bodies such as city councils, school boards, and any other position that will help a person gain name recognition and standing with community – work from the bottom up. With such a low voter turnout at local elections, it might be relatively easy to get elected at the local level.

It couldn't be the name of a political movement, but rather the thought behind it. Your words of growing your area with like minded brothers still resonate with this one. 15. Names: Consider 2 issues when considering names.

    1) Using "Dermocrat" (capital D), "Republican" (capital R), Green, Libertarian or Constitution in the party name carry serious Trademark risks. For those considering some variation of "Constitution" in the name - it isn't off the table, but it must be sufficiently different from the established "Constitution Party" to avoid "...confusion in the minds of voters..." or they could bankrupt any new start-up pretty quickly with a few trademark infringement cases.

    2) Is the name of the party you are considering available as a clean domain?

  16. Restoration Party. Restoring the rights and liberties of Americans. Restoring the American economy. Restoring accountable government.

  17. I've been giving some thought on this lately, A HUGE problem is you (We) cannot convince enough democrat party voters to make a difference. Even if you could flip the entire voting block that has been voting "R" (which is highly unlikely) the D party still has the votes to win.
The MAJORITY of D voters now will vote D no matter who is on the ticket, no matter what they have done or said or even if they live a life diametrically opposed to the party platform. The current "D" voters will continue to vote "D". there is maybe 10% of them that would even possibly be swayed if there was video proof that their candidate was evil beyond the realms of H!tler himself, but even then I doubt that would make a difference.
The ONLY way change is going to happen at the VOTING booth at this point is to control of the democrat party. This may be easier than it seems because the voters will still vote "D" no matter what. The votes are already there.
